The Eden Project has been awarded the £50m it was seeking in the second round of the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund so it can now move forward with the building of the new Eden Project Morecambe in Lancashire. It will be a landmark attraction for the North West and will continue the Eden Project’s mission of connecting people to the natural world.
The bid, submitted by Lancaster City Council, was chosen as a recipient of the largest investment possible under the fund which was earmarked for large-scale cultural regeneration projects as part of the Levelling Up Initiative.
Lancaster City Council will be the recipient of the funding and will work with various partners to ensure it is allocated in accordance with Government requirements. Eden Project Morecambe is being delivered by the team behind the first Eden Project in Cornwall, alongside local partners Lancaster University, Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership.
Eden Project Morecambe is now the new official name for the project, which has previously been known as Eden Project North. Groundwork will now be undertaken on the site at Morecambe before construction begins. The community will be kept well-informed of developments and this is an exciting time for the region. The £50m investment now allows the remaining £50m to be secured from private and other sources.
